A speed problem can exist on the connection to the router, on the Wi-Fi link inside your home, or both. Treating those as the same thing can derail a complaint.
Think in two layers
Broadband/access-line performance is the connection delivered to the router or hub. Wi-Fi performance is the wireless connection from that router to a phone, laptop, TV or other device. Walls, interference, distance, device capability and mesh/extender placement can reduce Wi-Fi speed even when the line is healthy.

Use the right evidence for the right promise
If the dispute is a minimum broadband speed, focus on the line and follow the provider/Code diagnostic method. If the dispute is a separate Wi-Fi guarantee or mesh product, preserve the guarantee wording, eligibility conditions, number/location of extenders, diagnostics and any promised remedy.
A Wi-Fi diagnosis should be testable
If support says “your line is fine, it is Wi-Fi”, ask for the line figure it is relying on. Then test close to the router and by Ethernet where possible. Record device model, test location and whether other devices show the same problem.
If an engineer later finds a line fault after repeated Wi-Fi diagnoses, preserve that contradiction; it may explain delay and unnecessary troubleshooting.
Whole-home Wi-Fi products have their own conditions
Some providers sell add-ons or guarantees promising coverage around the home. These are contractual products with provider-specific conditions. Check what was promised, required setup/diagnostics, exclusions and the stated remedy. Do not import an old or another provider’s guarantee into your case.
Diagnostic sequence
Remove the ambiguity
- Record the broadband package and any separate Wi-Fi guarantee.
- Check router/line status and run an Ethernet test where possible.
- Run Wi-Fi tests near the router and at the problem location.
- Repeat using more than one capable device if available.
- Follow the provider’s diagnostics and record what it concludes.
- Frame the complaint against the correct promise: line speed, coverage, equipment or both.
Use one controlled test to separate the layers
If possible, compare three things at roughly the same time: the speed reported by the router or provider diagnostic, a wired Ethernet test from a capable device, and the Wi-Fi result in the problem location. A healthy router/wired result with a poor distant-room result points towards in-home Wi-Fi. Poor router and wired results point much more strongly towards the broadband service itself.
Write down the device and connection used. Older Wi-Fi standards, congested channels, thick walls, mesh placement and device limitations can all affect wireless performance without changing the incoming broadband speed.
A separate Wi-Fi guarantee creates a separate question
Some providers sell whole-home Wi-Fi, mesh units or a Wi-Fi guarantee in addition to the underlying broadband. If you bought one, read its exact coverage promise, qualifying equipment and troubleshooting conditions. A provider can be meeting the line-speed commitment but still have a separate issue under the Wi-Fi product it sold.
Keep the original product description and any guarantee terms. Do not assume that a marketing phrase such as “whole-home” means unlimited speed in every location; equally, do not accept a generic “Wi-Fi is never guaranteed” response if you paid for a defined coverage commitment.
Ask the provider to state which problem it has diagnosed
A useful complaint question is: “Are you saying the broadband service to the router is performing correctly and the remaining fault is only the in-home wireless network?” Ask for the measurements supporting that conclusion. If its diagnosis changes between teams, preserve both versions and ask the provider to reconcile them.
Match the remedy to the failed layer
A line fault may call for network repair, engineer work, a speed-code remedy or service credit. A Wi-Fi problem may call for router placement, replacement equipment, mesh/disc support or a remedy under a paid Wi-Fi guarantee. Keeping those routes separate prevents the provider from closing a broadband fault because it fixed Wi-Fi, or vice versa.
