Independent advice route

Citizens Advice and consumer problems

Understand what Citizens Advice can do, which part of the service to contact, how consumer referrals to Trading Standards work, and what to do after receiving advice.

Citizens Advice can be a route into the system, but it is not every route

Citizens Advice is often useful when a consumer needs independent help to identify their rights, explain a trader problem, prepare a complaint or pass suitable information into the Trading Standards system in England and Wales. Local Citizens Advice offices may also help with debt, benefits, housing, employment and connected problems. It does not replace the business complaint, an ombudsman, a court or a specialist regulator where those are the bodies able to decide the outcome.
